For the first time since 2020, The Guardian Angels will resume their patrols on NYC subways as crime continues to rise.
Curtis Sliwa, an American activist, radio talk show host, and founder and CEO of The Guardian Angels, shared the group will reappear in response to “sky-high” crime, including the shocking murder of a sleeping woman, who was lit on fire by an illegal immigrant.

Silwa shared on X, “The Guardian Angels are patrolling subway trains in Coney Island after a woman was set on fire early Sunday morning at the Stillwell Avenue station.”
“The volunteer safety group is focusing on idle trains, where people often seek shelter from the cold. During their patrols, the Angels are encouraging riders to stay aware of their surroundings and offering assistance, like directing them to nearest shelters.”

“We’re going to make sure we have a visual presence just like we had in the ’70s, 80’s and ’90s.”
Ever since last week’s shocking slaying, “hundreds of citizens” have requested the Guardian Angels return to patrol the subway cars, Sliwa claimed.
“We’re covering the actual trains from front to back, walking through the trains and making sure that everything is okay,” he told The Post on Sunday. “We’re doing this constantly now. Starting today. that’s going to be our complete focus because the subways are out of control.”
Sliwa also pointed out how the “Penny-effect” has discouraged regular citizens to step up, and step in, to help those in danger, likely fearing that their efforts to help may land them in the crosshairs of a punitive legal system.
Penny was found not guilty of criminally negligent homicide in the death of Jordan Neely during an incident on a New York City subway in 2023. Neely had been arrested 42 times over the last decade.
Prior to the incident, Neely displayed erratic behavior that included shouting disturbing threats at fellow passengers.
The grueling trial and the grotesque attacks on Penny’s character and motivations sent a disturbing message to those who might otherwise step in: don’t get involved.
“Citizens won’t do that (step in) because, unfortunately, the Daniel Penny effect has frozen them,” Sliwa noted. “They’re not going to get involved.”
“I’ve seen grown men who normally might have gotten involved, they’re just not getting involved any longer.”
