Soros-backed New York Attorney General Letitia James has set her sights on a new target: Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), a program aimed at streamlining government operations and reducing waste.
James announced her intention to sue Elon Musk’s DOGE on Thursday, claiming it has no right to access sensitive personal data or to interfere with federal payments.
The hypocrisy is staggering. James remained silent when tech giants like Google and Facebook trampled on user privacy under the guise of “security.”
But when Musk, a champion of free speech and efficiency, steps in to clean up government bloat, suddenly she cries foul.
“DOGE has no authority to access Americans’ private information or to block critical payments. Elon Musk may be the world’s richest man, but he is not above the law. I intend to sue to stop this injustice,” James said.
She continued, “This kind of access by unauthorized individuals is unlawful, unprecedented, and unacceptable. The President does not have the power to give away our private information to anyone he chooses.”

James’ baseless claims hinge on the false narrative that DOGE is unlawfully accessing private data and interfering with payment systems.
In reality, DOGE was granted access to “read-only” mode to federal systems to audit government spending.
On January 31, 2025, DOGE obtained access to the U.S. Treasury’s payment system, which manages over $6 trillion annually, including Social Security and Medicare payments.
Letitia James’ threat comes after a federal judge on Thursday blocked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) from obtaining access to ‘sensitive‘ Treasury Department payment records for a period of time.
Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly wrote in her order that Treasury officials “will not provide access to any payment record or payment system of records maintained within the [Treasury] Bureau of Fiscal Service.”
