President Trump has made a bold move by firing the head of the Office of Government Ethics, a decision that many conservatives view as a necessary corrective against an entrenched liberal bias in Washington.
David Huitema, who was appointed by Joe Biden in December 2024 for a five-year term and confirmed by the Senate, had been in office for just over two months before his removal.
Trump’s decision to remove him as director was announced in a brief statement on the OGE website, noting that the office had been informed of his dismissal.
“OGE has been notified that the President is removing David Huitema as the Director of OGE. OGE is reverting to an Acting Director. Please see OGE’s Organizational Leadership webpage,” the website reads.
Following the news, pathological liar and Russia hoaxer Sen. Adam Schiff complained regarding Huitema’s dismissal.
“This morning, I sent a letter to the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) regarding Elon Musk’s potential conflicts of interest,” Schiff wrote on X Monday.
“Within minutes, the White House confirmed receipt. By noon, President Trump fired the Director of OGE. I want to know: Was this to prevent his answer?”

This is blatantly false.
In an interview with CNN, Huitema revealed he was informed of his removal via an email from the Presidential Personnel Office, which he received over the weekend after it was sent Friday night, not on Monday as Schiff falsely claimed.
Huitema stated he was unaware of any specific agency action that might have prompted Trump’s decision.
“My sense is that the president doesn’t want OGE or really anyone with an independent voice to address concerns that are raised,” Huitema claimed.
Trump also appointed Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins as the interim head of the ethics agency.
