To the victor, the spoils.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has just wrapped up his four-day trip to China, where he participated in the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Tianjin, and the military parade in Beijing celebrating 80 years of the end of WW2.
During his stay, Putin had multiple bilateral meetings: with China’s Xi Jinping, India’s Narendra Modi, Turkey’s Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, North Korea’s Kim Jon Ung, Iran’s Masoud Pezeshkian, Serbia’s Aleksandar Vučić, Slovakia’s Robert Fico, among others.
Not an ‘isolated leader’.
To mark the end of his trip, Putin spoke to the press about a wide array of issues – but the war in Ukraine was one of main topics.
The Russian leader manifested a certain optimism, saying the war in Ukraine may end through negotiations ‘if common sense prevails’, but also made clear that his country was ready to end it by ‘force of arms’.
Putin sees ‘a certain light at the end of the tunnel’ because of ‘sincere efforts’ by the US administration of Donald J. Trump to find a settlement to the war.

Reuters reported:
“’It seems to me that if common sense prevails, it will be possible to agree on an acceptable solution to end this conflict. That is my assumption’, he told reporters in Beijing.
‘Especially since we can see the mood of the current U.S. administration under President Trump, and we see not just their statements, but their sincere desire to find this solution’.
‘And I think there is a certain light at the end of the tunnel. Let’s see how the situation develops. If not, then we will have to resolve all the tasks before us by force of arms’.”
