A naked man in Los Angeles broke into a Studio City home early Friday morning and assaulted the homeowner’s 79-year-old neighbor, breaking his legs, before he was shot dead.
The 79-year-old, identified as George, a Vietnam Veteran, found the naked man in front of his home and asked him to leave when the suspect grabbed him and slammed him onto the ground.
George fired three shots, according to witnesses.
LAPD Captain Warner Castillo told reporters that the man “broke into the front of the house,” and “the lone female started yelling and screaming and told him to leave.” Castillo says she ran out and went to her neighbor, George, who intervened.
“The 79-year-old man tells the suspect to leave, he told him I have a gun. I will shoot you. The suspect grabs the 79-year-old man, lifts him, throws him on the ground, and that’s where the 79 79-year-old man suffered two broken legs,” he added.
“He shot him from the ground after suffering the two broken legs.”
Police say the suspect was shot two to three times and “still approached the 79-year-old” after getting shot a first time. That’s when George shot him again.
George underwent surgery and is in recovery, according to Fox 11.
Neighbors described the scene as “terrifying,” “insane,” and “beyond any rational thought.”
“I think that’s okay,” one neighbor said of George killing the madman.
One neighbor reportedly said the man had been trying to break into other homes.
Further details on the suspect, including motive and immigration status, are unknown at this time. He is believed to have driven to the neighborhood, evidenced by clothes on the ground next to a Prius parked nearby.
Security camera footage shows the naked man walking up to the house and appearing to rip a security yard sign out of the ground before entering the private property.
He can be heard saying something in an unknown language, which Fox 11’s Christina Gonzalez said sounds like Spanish.
