A Fremont High School student in Nebraska was struck by a red SUV during a student-led anti-ICE protest, leaving her with bumps and bruises, and her mother is livid at the school for allowing it to happen.
The girl’s mother is pointing the finger squarely at the school, accusing administrators of failing to protect students and even allowing protest materials to be made in class.
The protest outside Fremont High School took place late last month, with dozens of students walking out of class to protest against ICE.
Video footage from News Channel Nebraska was filming the protest when a red SUV struck the girl who was standing in front.
“First of all, I don’t feel she’s informed enough to have made a decision like the one that she made by doing a protest,” the mother told local station WOWT. “I don’t feel that any of the young people that were involved know enough about what’s going on to do or set up a protest because I feel they don’t know what they’re protesting.”
The station did not release the mother’s name but spoke with both her and the daughter.
“My daughter was allowed to make her poster in class, in school, to career class,” she added. “Where are the teachers and why weren’t they paying more attention to what these kids were doing?”
“I feel the school is quite a bit at fault for this,” the mother asserted.
Fremont Public Schools issued a statement acknowledging the event but provided no specifics on their involvement. The district described the protest as non-school-sanctioned, but schools nationwide are enabling and often promoting leftist activism by allowing students and teachers to skip classes for political causes.
The statement read in full:
Earlier this week, Fremont High School administration became aware of rumors regarding a potential student walkout on January 29. In response, staff were reminded of the importance of remaining nonpartisan in all conversations with students. Schools are not permitted to physically prevent students from leaving campus or gathering on public sidewalks. Students who chose to participate in the walkout were marked with an unverified absence and parents were notified.
The safety and well-being of our students is our highest priority. Staff were present throughout the situation to help monitor student activity and to encourage safe, peaceful behavior.
While we respect students’ rights to express their views through peaceful demonstration, safety remains paramount. The district continues to work closely with school staff, first responders, and community partners to review the event and identify any steps that may help prevent harm in the future.
This incident reflects broader national conversations and highlights the importance of fostering respectful dialogue and strong relationships within our community. We encourage parents, students, and community members to support safe, constructive engagement and a positive learning environment for all.
Fremont police have since cited six individuals in connection with the chaos, including the driver for leaving the scene and the injured protester herself.
