Amazon has yanked its documentary on First Lady Melania Trump from an independent theater in Oregon after the venue’s marquee took jabs at the film.
The Lake Theater and Cafe in extremely blue Lake Oswego had been screening “Melania,” a film directed by Brett Ratner and distributed by Amazon MGM Studios, despite trying to turn it into a punchline.
The marquee displayed mocking messages like “Does Melania wear Prada? Find out Friday!” a reference to the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada,” and “To defeat your enemy. You must know them. Melania starts Friday,” referencing Sun Tzu’s “The Art of War.”
The digs apparently didn’t sit well with Amazon executives, who swiftly told the theater to cancel all remaining showings.
Theater manager Jordan Perry confirmed the showings being cancelled in an Instagram post, stating that “higher ups (i.e., at Amazon)” were upset over the marquee and that Sunday would be the film’s final day at the venue.
The post read:
Got a call that the higher ups (i.e., at Amazon) were upset with how our marquee marketed their movie (i.e., Melania), that, per them, Sunday would be its last day here. Also got, before then, countless emails and voicemails and Google / Yelp reviews (Google / Yelp took them down) wondering why the hell we had Melania here, or disdaining our disparaging of her. Now that it’s prematurely over, the plug pulled on us not from public outcry (always listening, thank you) but by some corporate executive (fair enough, sorry AMZN, please don’t cancel my Prime), Jordan figured he’d …say something? Link in bio. TLDR: welp.
The theater subsequently changed the marquee to, “Amazon called. Our marquee made them mad. All ‘Melania’ showings cancelled. Show your support at Whole Foods instead,” with a sad-face emoji.
In a blog post, Perry doubled down on the theater’s intent, describing the documentary as an “inexplicable vanity piece from the current president’s wife” and suggesting that showing it at an “anti-establishment, occasionally troublemaking” cinema would be “exponentially weirder, to the point of being funny.” He even framed the meager ticket sales, estimated at $196, as a “donation to the Jeff Bezos Trust Fund,” taking a swipe at Amazon’s billionaire founder.
The documentary chronicles the 20 days leading up to Melania Trump’s return to the White House following President Donald Trump’s second-term victory. It opened last week to massive success, boasting the best box office numbers for a documentary in over a decade across nearly 1,800 theaters nationwide.
Amazon did not publicly acknowledge the scandal.
This isn’t the first attack on the film from the left.

As The Gateway Pundit previously reported, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority admitted to reassigning buses featuring advertisements for “Melania” due to widespread vandalism targeting the promotional materials.
