Jimmy’s Famous Seafood co-owner John Minadakis spoke to The Gateway Pundit on Thursday following their incredible response to the liberal media’s anti-American reporting on Team USA’s Olympic victory. The restaurant went viral on social media for flat-out telling the news outlets to “go f*ck yourself.”
The restaurant has been operating in East Baltimore since 1974, when Minadakis’s father, Demetrios “Jimmy” Minadakis, came to the US from Greece and opened the family business, which is now a Baltimore staple. “My father came here from Greece when he was an immigrant in the late 60s, worked in the hospitality industry between PA and DC— dishwasher, busboy, whatever it takes, right— and saved a little bit of money up and ultimately ended up here where we’re sitting right now,” John told The Gateway Pundit.
“If I had to describe it in three words, you know, Jimmy’s seafood is the American dream.”
And when liberal media outlets attacked the country we love and our American culture, the Minadakis family didn’t hold back.
As The Gateway Pundit reported, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood went viral over the past week for shutting down the leftwing media on social media after they tried to diminish the USA Men’s Hockey team’s Olympic gold medal win by suggesting that Americans should not be proud of their country.
“Go f*ck yourself,” the restaurant’s owners said on social media to far-left Huff Post, New York Times, and the Baltimore Sun.
John told The Gateway Pundit that the initial interaction on X, which has now garnered over 17 million views, far outnumbering the Huffington Post’s original tweet about why celebrating the USA should “turn you off,” that they’ve received “overwhelming positivity.”
“You’re seeing so many people that aren’t just proud of, not only that team, but what this country has afforded them, and it’s coming out, and they’re just, they’re proud, man. It’s beautiful. It’s like Fourth of July every day this week. It really is. So, whether it’s on Twitter, or Facebook, or Instagram, or via email, people are sharing amazing stories, disabled veterans that are emailing us saying how much joy the tweet brought them. The three words, you know, it’s crazy. It’s beautiful,” John said, noting that some people are traveling hundreds or even thousands of miles just to try their restaurant. “The thing that we’ve been reading the most is, ‘You said what we were all thinking.’”
“No matter if you were in a bar, if you were on your couch, you probably had tears in your eyes, you had goosebumps, you were hugging whoever you were next to, you weren’t checking voter cards, you know? It was unifying. And then here comes Huffington Post, saying, ‘Oh, you know, you shouldn’t really be cheering for the guys.’ It’s, you know, the first thing I thought, I typed, and I guess it was the tweet heard around the world,” John said of his thinking behind the post.
“I just don’t think it’s a, yeah, patriotism isn’t political. That’s the truth. I strongly disagree with anybody trying to make this monumental win for our country political,” John added.
He further responded to Keith Olbermann, who, as The Gateway Pundit reported, made an unhinged X post, calling the Men’s hockey team “stupid, self-absorbed and misogynistic” for accepting President Trump’s invite to the White House.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t think either side of the political fence claims Keith Olbermann anymore. I think he’s that far gone,” John said. “Once again, I just think he’s trying to interject politics into it, trying to get his name out there. He’s trying to remain relevant when he hasn’t been for a long time. And, you know, I just couldn’t imagine telling somebody who has dedicated their entire life to a sport and being the 1% of the 1% and achieving their goals.”
“When you’re eight years old, playing rollerskate hockey with your buddies, you dream of that moment, to meet the president, right? And then you’re gonna have Keith Olbermann tell you that you shouldn’t go? I think that’s a little ridiculous.”
The social media reaction has been such a hit that Jimmy’s is even selling t-shirts featuring the new slogan, with proceeds supporting the Folds of Honor nonprofit, which supports the families of fallen or disabled troops and first responders. Merchandise and food from the restaurant are available to ship at Jimmysfamousseafood.com (the crab cakes are amazing!).

As John explained, his family restaurant frequently shares the wealth, helping local businesses stay afloat during COVID, through their Famous Fund, and donating to organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project, which they already donated $10,000 to after their USA Olympic gold medal t-shirt completely sold out in just three days. “Because of the American dream and everybody blessing our family and this country blessing our family, you know, we’re in a position to give back, and I think it is our duty and our responsibility,” John said.
This author also had the opportunity to try their crab cakes, crab eggrolls, calamari, shrimp, sushi, steak, and various other appetizers, and this is truly one of the best restaurants in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
